Project Hesban
The Madaba Plains Project studies long-term cultural and environmental changes in the highland plateau located between the cities of Madaba and Amman in the country of Jordan. Field research, during five seven-week expeditions in the months of May, June and July, centers on three archaeological sites located on the points of an imaginary triangle with Umayri in the northeast, Hesban in west, and Jalul in the southeast. The project’s overall goal is to advance understanding of cultural interactions through the ages in this ancient vital corridor of communication and commerce.
