Hesban 4: Ethnoarchaeological Foundations:
A Study of Changes in Land Use, Settlement, Operational, and Dietary Conditions at Tell Hesban and Vicinity
by Øystein S. LaBianca (Andrews University)
A report on the four seasons of ethnographical and ethnoarchaeological fieldwork in the village of Hesban and its vicinity with emphasis on documentation of various aspects of the local food production system. These investigations were aimed at learning more about the survival strategies evolved over the centuries by indigenous tribesmen. The volume delineates seven such strategies including the following: kin-based social organization, multi-resource household economics, fluid homeland territories, flexible residential patterns, small-scale water sourcing, localized food supply, hospitality, and honor.
